The Tripp Batt Story

Tripp Batt has built on West Suffolk's industrial and agricultural heritage, and its own site’s long engineering tradition. On 1st July 1949, Frank Tripp and Peter Batt, who were each involved in agricultural engineering and machinery, acquired Sturgeon Brothers - a long-established, traditional engineering business serving farming communities and their associated businesses. Sturgeon Brothers had operated one of the largest, steam-ploughing fleets in East Anglia and were also involved in the early manufacture of sugar beet harvesting equipment for Catchpoles. Tripp Batt then became agents for Massey-Harris and David Brown, among others in the highly competitive tractor market, and serviced and repaired a full range of machinery.

When Frank Tripp retired in 1954, his son, Richard, who had been working for RA Lister in S America, took over his shareholding. At that time, Tripp Batt recognised the increasing need for on-farm grain handling, drying and storage facilities that had arisen with recent advances in crop productivity. Tripp Batt saw a future in specialisation, particularly in the design and installation of fixed equipment and on-farm grain facilities. This policy has continued successfully to the present day and, as a result, the company has acquired a vast experience in a wide range of applications which are also relevant to other industries.

With the retirement of Peter Batt in 1986 and Richard Tripp two years later, the business was sold to the present owners, Con Mech Group Ltd. New ownership gave Tripp Batt a stronger financial base, and the company has since consolidated its position at the forefront of specialist installation and construction services.

In the 1990s, the company embraced Computer Aided Design and developed its in-house capabilities in the design, manufacture and installation of custom-built items ranging from individual machines to complete plants. Tripp Batt uses the latest CAD software and other computer techniques to provide individually-engineered solutions for their clients and to ensure that all projects are completed accurately, on time, and within budget.
